My boyfriend and I were sharing earphones while we were travelling together
he played me this song,
talked through most of it,
too excited about Paresh Pahuja and his work in Bandish Bandits to stay quiet.

But even with his voice overlapping the melody,
I fell in love , with the song,
with the moment,
maybe with him all over again.


Now, silence fills the space where his voice used to be.
We don’t talk anymore.
But this song still does.
It carries his laughter, his stories, the way he looked at me mid-chorus.
And when I listen, the tears come quietly, like they know they belong.

I won’t say I hope this finds him.
But if he ever stumbles across this,
I hope he knows
he didn’t just play me a song.
He left behind a memory that plays on repeat,
